British Values
At CKIS we will ensure that fundamental British Values and our school’s core values are recognised and celebrated by following six themes over the course of the academic year. Our assembly times and curriculum embed the key elements of our Social, Moral, Social and Cultural curriculum where we encourage all to recognise the role they have to play within our school community and family.
According to Ofsted in 2015, fundamental British values (FBV) are:
- Democracy
- The rule of law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.
The themes will be developed in three stages:
- There will be an opportunity to develop understanding of the concept in the initial weeks.
- There will then be a chance for pupils to reflect on their feelings and emotions linked to the theme.
- This will be followed by a chance to consider how their actions and behaviour may change as a result of improved understanding.
Reference will also be made to religious festivals and national events.
The six themes are as follows:
Term | Theme |
---|---|
1 | Our Community: “I belong” |
2 | Responsibility: “Making Choices” |
3 | Acceptance and Difference: “We are all special” |
4 | Respect and Tolerance: “It’s ok to be different” |
5 | Kindness: “Being Kind” |
6 | Freedom: “Free to be me” |
